I couldn’t end this month – with out discussing the power of “Afro – hair “ for centuries black women hair has been a hot topic, So much that in 1786, the Tignon Laws were passed in Louisiana,
requiring Black women to cover their hair
with a cloth head covering (tignon). This
law was enacted because free women of
color were wearing elaborate hairstyles;
but of corse the power of “black a women” could never be with out with out its own bones – black women started to adorn
there hared rapes with pearl, flowers and so much more bring even more
attention – Black women turned this oppressive law into an opportunity for
creative resistance by making their head wraps increasingly elaborate and decorative.
Even after the law was no longer enforced, many Black women continued to
face social and professional pressure regarding their natural hair -So what i
s it about black women’s hair that makes it such a hot topic even taboo in some cases –
Growning up – hair has always been a topic of how to take cear of it or how
long or straight you could possibly get it. to the point were black women
across the world are faced with the on going perisher to tame there hair –
some women many women are told to change the way they wear there hair
completely. Despite of the “crown act“ I remember always being told how
“beautiful ” my hair was to the point if felt like my hair took on its own
personalty; when I become a women in my own right – I felt the own going
presumer for yeas to show up the way the world was confatable seeing me.
My hair for yeas was such a mental F#$k until one day finally working up the
nerves to cute it all off; the look on everyone faces was priceless! I loved
every minute of it lol – althoght short lived to only fine my self ones again under
the clutches of what my hair looks like to the world once again.
Now that i’m well into my 50’s I’m happy to say – finally in a please were i no
longer care how my hair is being persived – loving every curl and gray hair
that sprouts out yes “gray” stay tuned for more on that one! Black women in
general are powerful – and there hair holds secrits of that power – in some
cultures- its believed that hair is connected to the spital ralm .
This power is passed down through tender love and care to there beautful daughters who one day will do the same.
Black women have indored pain for centreys; although the strogle is still going
on – with that being said – there love power and energy will hold up the flame
and will continue on to the next generation ever time a – black women set
down and passes down the magic of there antseister to there love ones –
alowing them to show up to the world powerful and tall to the world.
The End!
Peace, Love and Blessings Lovelies Xoxo.
